Description
Co-culturing data of diatoms isolated from the carapaces of Adriatic loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) and microbiome associated with diatom monocultures and co-cultures at Ghent University/BCCM/DCG during September and October 2020. more
EpiDiaInter project research was performed on strains obtained from Adriatic loggerhead sea turtles during 2019 (Croatia, TurtleBIOME project) with experiments performed within the scope of Assemble+ TA project at PAE, Ghent University and BCCM/DCG during September and October 2020 (Belgium). Several putative turtle specific diatom strains were co-cultured with what are considered to be opportunistic diatom taxa and imaged for bright field and CY5 to follow growth and biomass change over a period of 14 days. Additionaly mono- and co-culture set up was replicated in cell culture flasks and grown under same conditions for 16S rRNA gene sequencing and characterization of diatom associated microbiota and potential shifts of the aforementioned during co-culturing.
