Van Caillie (1983, pl. 8)
Description 1875 : Het eerste Kursaal
Het werd gebouwd in 1852 naar de plannen van Architect BEYAERT. Het was gelegen op de buitenste vestingswal, ter hoogte van de hoek Christinastraat-Zeedijk. Men bereikte het gebouw via de hulppoort (links op foto) en de brug over de gracht.
De uitbating was toen in handen van Louis VAN DEN ABEELE. In 1864 kwam de concessie in handen van Gabriel JEAN.
Dit eerste kursaalgebouw werd gesloopt in 1877/1878.
