VLIZ developed the Sonarlogger, a new observation tool to monitor long-term changes on the seafloor. This stand-alone high-resolution sonar can sweep the seafloor to give detailed insight into seafloor dynamics. Deployed for months at a time it generates time-lapse views instrumental for monitoring the impact of storms. The Sonarlogger was applied to observe the seafloor dynamics of nature-based solutions for coastal defense within the Coastbusters 2.0 project (Blauwe Cluster (Blue Cluster) vzw, VLAIO - Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship). The instrument was installed on the multi-purpose mooring developed by VLIZ for LifeWatch ERIC.
