| Abstract |
The Japanese bubble snail Haloa japonica is native to the Indo-West Pacific region around Korea and Japan. The snail colonises new areas through the introduction of commercial bivalves for aquaculture purposes. The species was first observed on Belgian territory in April 2024, in the Sluice dock in Ostend. This is currently the only known location in Belgium. The snail is mainly found in sheltered water systems and has a high tolerance for various environmental conditions, which facilitates its potential for further spread. |
