| The M.S.O. association was founded in 1997 by a group of volunteers with a nostalgic passion for old fishing vessels, working together with a project for the training and employment of jobless workers.Results in training and employment: one of the objectives of the association "Maritieme Site Oostende", collaborating with the Flemish employment agency, was the preparation for a return to the (regular) job market of unemployed persons, unskilled workers, ex-convicts and rehabilitated drug addicts. As a rule the association works with a dozen trainees, who receive a 6 to 8 month training in shipbuilding and renovation. The programme is not meant to create specialists but to give the workers an all-round training, enabling them to get regular employment. From April 1st, 1988 to September 1st, 2002 127 trainees followed the 6 month programme. More than 60% of the people who started training found various forms of employment. |
