Abstract
Baccharis halimifolia L., native in North America, has steadily increased since 1997 on the Belgian sea-coast. This garden escape inhabits valuable and vulnerable ecological niches (irregularly flooded marshes, coastal dunes). Its future invasiveness and weediness are previewed. The authors recommend eradication of the naturalized specimens.
