Abstract
Direct observation from the Cyana diving saucer allows to depict the Mesozoic and Cenozoic evolution of the north-western Iberian continental slope. The present structure results from the early Eocene shortening of the late Cretaceous Iberian margin. The deformation is linked to the Iberian-European plate convergence and associated subduction of the Bay of Biscay oceanic crust beneath the North Spanish continental margin. Former structures of the margin, inherited from the rifting, have been remobilized and transformed into reverse faults and strike-slip faults. Nevertheless, the crustal thinning during the rifting and the crustal thickening during the subduction remain relatively low in the studied area.
