| Abstract |
Very well collected and preserved Tulumella grandis allowed fine investigations on neuro-muscular anatomy of the ocular scales and thoracic legs. With peculiar muscular system, podomerism and unguli, the first free thoracopod can be considered as a gnathopod; this fact can be a general feature of all thermosbaenacean genera dealing with the definition of this group. The anatomy of the ocular-scale with ganglia and two distinct muscular systems is established only in T. grandis but can be true for all the podophtalmous Thermosbaenacea (Halosbaenidae family). The occurrence of three pairs of small gills between thoracic pleurae and appendages is established only in one species: T. grandis. Relationships between thermosbaenacean genera and between peracaridan phyla are discussed. |
