Abstract
    Data collected on Vasconiella jeffreysiana form the basis for a historical reconstruction of previous descriptions of its two valves and a review of the geographical distribution of the species. Based upon a biometric study, the shell is thoroughly redescribed with an emphasis on its remarkably inequivalve condition. Conchyological and anatomical features of V. jeffreysiana are compared to those of related species of Leptonacea in order to clarify the taxonomic relationships of this little known commensal bivalve.
