Abstract

The algal vegetation was studied in the Texel polders of “Het Noorden” and “De Eendracht”. In these areas a zonation pattern is caused by gradients in salinity and humidity. Sometimes the gradients are disturbed by seepage of fresh or salt water.

    1.

The area is rich in algal species. Over 45 species have been found up to the present time. The zonation in the algal vegetation is described.

    2.

Among the species recorded were 13Vaucheria species.Vaucheria species especially show a distinct zonation. The zones are characterized by resp.V. subsimplex; V. coronata- V. sescuplicaria- V. arcassonensis; V. synandra- V. erythrospora.

    3.

Locally, mainly inJuncus maritimus vegetations,Chaetomorpha linum constitutes the algal mat. OnChaetomorpha, a specific group of epiphytes occurs.
