Abstract
The new species Virgiconus malabaricus n. sp. (Gastropoda,Conidae) is described. It had been formerly considered as the Indian form of Virgiconus berdulinus (Veillard, 1972). The new species lives in deep water in Southern India. It is compared to V. berdulinus from off Eastern Africa, Madagascar, Mascarene Islands and Gulf of Aden, Virgiconus kintoki (Habe & Kosuge, 1970) from the Philippines and South China Sea, and Virgiconus coelinae (Crosse, 1858) from South Western Pacific. The taxonomic status of Conus kashiwajimensis Shikama, 1971 is also reviewed.
