Abstract
This article is a contribution to the taxonomic knowledge of Mitra branderi Defrance, 1824, Mitra parisiensis Deshayes, 1832 and Mitra chaussyensis Cossmann, 1907, previously considered as Mitreola, are now discuted in the new genus Eovoluta. M. parisiensis Deshayes, 1832 and M. chaussyensis Cossmann, 1907 are considered as junior subjective synonyms of Mitra branderi Defrance, 1824. The species Mitra lajoyi Deshayes, 1835, Voluta bouei Deshayes, 1865 from the Eocene of Paris Basin, Voluta eomagna Vokes, 1939 from the Eocene of California (USA) and Lyria coquillensis Turner, 1938 from the Eocene of Oregon (USA) are also discuted in this new genus. Lectotypes are designated for the taxa M. parisiensis, M. chaussyensis, M. lajoyi and V. bouei. Data are added on the distribution of these species. Three new species are described: Eovoluta iolinensis nov. sp., Eovoluta volcesiana nov. sp. and Eovoluta quaggiottoi nov. sp. Further to the taxonomic considerations and to the critics of our works, published in a study on the fauna of the deposit of Maulette (Yvelines, France), a clarification is given.
