Abstract
Profundiconus zardoyai sp. nov. is described from deep water material taken during several MNHN research cruises at Grand Passage, North New Caledonia. The new species is characterized by the very small shell length, conical to broadly conical shell shape with a moderate spire of sigmoid profile, and a white paucispiral protoconch. The pattern consists mainly of a variable number of narrow spiral bars ofbrown and white alternating dots and dashes on a purplish white to orange-brown ground color. The details of its radular morphology are reported. The new species has been molecularly characterised by sequencing a fragment of the COI gene. It is compared to Profundiconus kanakinus (Richard, 1983) and to Continuconus estivali (Moolenbeek & Richard in Röckel, Richard & Moolenbeek, 1995).
