Abstract
The systematic study of fossil impressions of mollusks obtained via silicone rubber casts, reveals unexpected faunal diversity. A large new species of the genus Scaphella was thus recognized in the Danian (Early Paleocene) limestones of Vigny (Val d'Oise, France) based on several well preserved external impressions. It is the third species of this genus identified in the Paleocene of the Paris Basin; it is also the fourth species of this genus described from the Danian.
