Abstract
It is proposed to limit the genus Hemifusus Swainson, 1840 to the larger, deeper-water species from the West Pacific (though not recorded in the Philippines) with up to larger than 30 cm, cream-coloured shells with a non-determined outer lip and predominantly spiral ribbing, and to place the smaller, shallow subtidal species with a range from India to the West Pacific and smaller than 17 cm brown shells in the new genera Brunneifususand Lenifusus. These shells also have a more determined outer lip (especially in Lenifusus gen. nov.) and other morphological differences with Hemifusus.
