Abstract
Nansenia crassa is described from 4 specimens obtained in the eastern north Pacific Ocean off southern California. N. crassa attains the greatest length and lacks the silver sheen typical of other Nansenia. This new species further differs from all other members of the genus in number of anal fin rays, branchiostegal rays, gill rakers, and in the size of the eye diameter.
