Abstract
Myers based Filimanus on a single specimen of polynemid that he misidentified as Polynemus melanochir Valenciennes. Filimanus is redescribed based on additional material and internal anatomy. The type species is described here as a new species from Indonesia, Filimanus perplexa. Five additional nominal species are assigned to Filimanus: F. heptadactyla (Cuvier), F. hexanema (Cuvier), F. sealei (Jordan and Evermann), F. xanthonema (Valenciennes), and a second new species, F. similis, described from the Indian Ocean.
