Giant waves up to 80 feet tall arise on only a few shorelines worldwide, such as at Nazaré, Portugal. Scientists have combined real-time wind and water data with models of the seafloor to explain why. They also usethe information to predict when and where the next record waves will break. World-class surfers are flocking to these places for the terrifyingthrill of riding the big one. |
