Abstract
Aporrhais elegantissima Parenzan, 1970 is a junior synonym of A. pesgallinae Barnard, 1963. The latter is here considered a recent subspecies of A. uttingeriana (Risso, 1826), a wellknown fossil from the Plio-pleistocene of the Mediterranean basin. Aporrhais uttingeriana pesgallinae Barnard is living in rather deep water along the coast of West Africa: from Mauretania to South West Africa. Its occurrence in the Mediterranean Sea is doubtful.
