Abstract
The endocrine Stannius corscuples (CS) of holostean and teleostean fishes produce molecules resembling mammalian parathyroid hormone (PTH). We have shown that extracts of eel CS contain proteins related to these PTH-related petides (PTHrp) and, furthermore, that retiles, amphibians, fish and Agnatha have DNA fragments homologous to the chicken PTHrp gene.
