Abstract
Acetone extracts prepared by an acid-ether elution procedure for ATP analysis by the firefly luminescence reaction yielded estimates comparable to those of the boiling tris buffer method and an acetone distillation technique, from algal and fungal cultures and colonized glass slides. The acetone acid-ether technique was more effective than the other methods in extracting ATP from aufwuchs attached to rock substrates. The technique allows estimates of ATP and chlorophyll to be made from a single sample.
