Abstract
    The greatest densities of dab (Limanda limanda L.) occur in the regions of the Doggerbank, the English Coast, waters south of the Doggerbank, and the German Bight where the catch averages more than 50 kg/h. The dab off the Scottish Coast and at the Fladen Ground averaged 18,70 and 19.32 cm, respectively. This was 1 to 2 cm longer than those in the other regions. The number of the age groups present increased from southeast to northwest. The dab populations in the North Sea, west Baltic Sea and around Iceland show clearly differences in the age and length structure. Significant fluctuations in the number of fin rays can occur from year to year. The number of dorsal and anal fin rays showed greater differences according to the region in which the fishes were caught. These differences between the specimens from western British waters and those in the north and Baltic Sea were statistically significant.
