Abstract
    T. conferta Hasle and T. binata G. Fryxell are described as new species. They are frequently <10 mu m in diameter and are thus among the smaller species of the genus, although larger valves may be about twice that size. T. conferta has been recorded from the northern hemisphere in subtropical and temperate zones of the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans while T. binata seems to be restricted to warm waters.
