Flanders Marine Institute

Platform for marine research

The VLIZ Library is a public marine scientific information centre and boasts a wealth of information on the Flemish coast, the North Sea and the world’s oceans and seas. The collection can be searched online or consulted on site in the library at the InnovOcean site.

The VLIZ Library manages an extensive collection of (inter)national marine scientific literature. The Library's collection consists of books, maps, periodicals, articles, reports and theses, and can be searched via the online catalogue. Every week an overview of new acquisitions is sent out via e-mail.

More information about the content and strategy of further expanding the library collection can be found in the acquisition management plan (2019 - in Dutch only).

VLIZ supports open scientific communication. Therefore, the VLIZ Library provides the Open Marine Archive (OMA), giving access to the larger part of the Belgian marine literature.

Publications from the VLIZ Library collection are not available for loan, but all documents can be consulted at the library, and copied or scanned (except for complete books). We provide a document delivery service for all marine literature.

Send your literature requests and submit your publications to library@vliz.be.

The library is only open by appointment at the moment! Please contact us by email or phone number mentioned below.
