‘Marine Art’ was a unique project where 32 marine scientists from the University of Ghent and the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) inspired the teachers and 1200 (!) students of the Visual Arts Academy in Ghent in workshops on the status of the seas and ocean and their science work in several fields. Teachers and students from a large range of art disciplines participated: drawing art, painting, graphics, mixed media, ceramics, illustration & cartoon, photography and animated film. All art work was exposed – together with the science that gave the inspiration to it - during a large exposition in Ghent (2-6 February 2013; 8000 visitors).
