The Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) strives to make its digital content as accessible as possible to people with disabilities, including this website.

This obligation follows from the European directive, as well as from Belgian legislation and the Flemish Administrative Decree.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

An external audit was carried out by WebAIM, an independent consultancy. An in-depth accessibility analysis of the site was conducted on 26 August 2026.

This statement was prepared on 30 September 2026.

Non-accessible content

Although we make every effort to make the website accessible, we cannot guarantee that all pages are free of errors. The main issues are:

  • Text has insufficient colour contrast.
  • Images do not have alternative text.
  • Some elements have an incorrect role.
  • Menus cannot be operated using the keyboard.

Proposed solutions

Monitoring the accessibility of the site is an ongoing effort. New pages and changes are consistently tested against the accessibility criteria.
