Abstract

Between the existing storm walls at Zeeheldenplein and Visserskaai in Ostend, a missing storm surge wall needs to be built. For the architectural design of this wall, Afdeling Kust wishes to have the following data determined (i) minimum wall height so that an average transhipment flow rate of 1 l/m/s is not exceeded during a 1000-year storm and (ii) the design value of the impact force on the storm surge wall due to wave load. This opinion makes a recommendation for the wall height and design load based on existing studies of the design Zeeheldenplein and the storm surge wall along Visserskaai.
