Abstract
The potential role of leptin on GTH 1 (FSH-like) and GTH 2 (LH-like) production (basal and GnRH-induced levels) was studied in vitro by using a pituitary cell culture system obtained from fish at different stages of gametogenesis. High doses of heterologous leptin were efficient in inducing an increase of GTH 1 and GTH 2 releases, with an effect depending on the sexual status. No significant effect of leptin was observed on GnRH response.
