Abstract
The effects of sGTH I and II on vitellogenesis were examined in Japanese eel. After a single injection of salmon gonadotropin (sGTH) I or II, changes in BW, moisture and protein contents of ovary, and oocyte diameter were investigated by using vitellogenic eel. Both sGTHs induced an increase in oocyte diameter, whereas only sGTH II caused an increase in BW and moisture contents of ovary. It is considered that the increase in oocyte diameter by sGTH I is due to accumulation of yolk protein, while the increase in oocyte diameter by sGTH II is due to accumulation of yolk protein and hydration of the oocyte.
