Abstract
It was found that average values of cytosol testosterone specific binding (TB) in forebrain of salmon and trout were significantly higher as compared with other brain areas, with the exception of pituitary gland. TB in forebrain of mature fishes exceeded the values of immature and maturing fish. On the other hand, average values of cytosol estradiol specific binding (E sub(2)B) in forebrain of mature fish were similar or decreased as compared with immature fish. The phenomenon may be involved in selective olfactory perception of testosterone (T), but not estradiol (E sub(2)), as a pheromone by mature specimens.
