Abstract
    The finding of Desdemona ornata Banse (Sabellidae, Fabricinae) in a brackish “microhabitat” of Elba Island (Tuscan Archipelago) is reported. This is a new species for the Mediterranean Sea, to date known only in some brackish basins of the southern hemisphere. Moreover, it is one of the first findings of the genus Desdemona in the northern hemisphere. The geographical distribution of this genus is discussed, with particular reference to D. ornata.
