| Abstract |
The meeting addressed problems of communication and coordination between scientists and institutions of higher education. The problem of sensitizing policy makers for marine related issues and problems was raised. The interpretation of scientific data for a wider audience would ensure an unquantifiable ‘spin-off’ from research and would assure the required feedback in the form of funding. It is therefore necessary to ensure interpretative materials (films, documents,…) for use in (i) sensitizing decision makers; (ii) training environment managers; (iii) teacher training; and (iv) sensitizing and educating both the local population and tourists. |
