Abstract
In order to improve/ update the geological data of sandbanks in sand extraction zones a parnership FPS Economy and VLIZ is envisaged. The purpose of the project is to consolidate our knowledge of the sand resource using the m ost modern geological and geophysical investigation techniques. The project thus extends the (BELSPO) TILES project by acquiring new surface and subsurface data in order to improve the reliability of the quantitative evaluation of the resource in extraction zones.
Within the project the acquisition of ultra-high resolution seismic data using SES-Quattro is foreseen which optimally combines penetration and resolution. These subbottom data will eventually be combined with controlled shallow drilling. Simultaneously, multibeam high resolution data (bathymetry and backscatter) and in situ control (grab samples and videos) of the surface sediment wil complete the dataset.
