Abstract
Het Eurofleets project, gecoördineerd door IFREMER (Frankrijk), brengt meer dan 20 wetenschappelijke instellingen samen om de eerste stappen te zetten naar een gecoördineerde Europese onderzoeksvloot en geassocieerde infrastructuur.
EuroFleets II zet in grote lijnen de taken van EuroFleets I door maar legt nieuwe accenten. VLIZ blijft binnen het tweede project nog altijd bijdragen tot de strategische visie en een aandeel hebben in een generisch ontwerp voor regionale onderzoeksschepen. Daarnaast moeten er ook bijdragen worden geleverd aan het opzetten van training voor jonge onderzoekers en “floating universities”. De belangrijkste bijdrage van VLIZ omhelst het openstellen van de Simon Stevin voor buitenlandse onderzoekers voor een project in de Zuidelijke Bocht van de Noordzee.
