Abstract
Construction of a coherent classification and species delimitation (including detailed species descriptions and illustrations) of the genus Halimeda (marine g reen algae) with emphasis on their diversity in the Indian Ocean. Morphometric (morphology and anatomy) as well as molecular phylogenetic research will be carried out and historical biogeographical conclusions will be drawn. The obtained cladograms will be analysed with respect to paleo-oceanographic events.
