Abstract
The red algal family Halymeniaceae offers a good model system to the test the current classification based on morphology and anatomy by means of independent molecular markers. Additional the phylogeny will be interpreted from a biogeographic point of view to obtain a better insight in the evolution of the macroalgal benthic flora of the western Indian Ocean.
