Abstract
Within this project the necessary research tools will be develo-ped to assess quantitatively the sediment delivery to watercourses in rural areas. Furthermore, a set of possible control measures to reduce this sediment delivery will be evaluated. First,an inventory will be made of the data which are available in Flanders with respect to sediment delivery and sediment transport in watercourses. These data will then be used to evaluate the model to be developed to assess the spatial distribution of soil erosion in Flanders. This model will be dynamic so that the effects of land use changes can be evaluated. As there are only limited data available with respect to the contribution of riverbank erosion to sediment transport, a pilot study will be carried out to assess the importance of bank erosion in two drainage systems.
