Abstract
Abstract:
Productivity of marine systems is often limited by the availability of biological usable N forms. Human activity contributed to an increased availabilityof nitrogen aquatic ecosystems. This phenomenon, also called eutrophication, results in an increased productivity of such ecosystems. The quantification of the different N-fluxes in an aquatic system in thus an essential step in understanding the eutrophication phenomenon, and thus towards its control. The objective of this project is to quantify the important internal N-fluxes (uptake, mineralisation an nutrification) in the Belgian Continental zone of the North sea for different seasonal situations.
