On Wednesday 4 March 2026, the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) brings together the marine scientific community on the VLIZ Marine Science Day 2026 at De Grote Post, Ostend. This edition will be entirely devoted to the internationalisation of marine research and will offer a dynamic programme with inspiring speakers, interactive sessions and opportunities to strengthen cross-border collaborations. The VLIZ Marine Science Day (#VMSD26) is the annual networking event for marine and coastal researchers, policymakers, and other stakeholders in the marine research community. On 4 March 2026, researchers from Flanders and neighbouring regions are invited to present their work through short pitch presentations and posters, and to take part in interactive sessions highlighting the importance of international cooperation.
The 2026 edition, endorsed as a UN Ocean Decade Action, features a rich and varied programme including keynote lectures, presentations by pre-doctoral researchers, and interactive moments designed to foster international exchange and collaboration in marine sciences. Key themes include ocean observation, climate-ocean interactions, and marine biodiversity. Presentations and posters will be evaluated by both a professional jury and the audience, with prizes awarded during the closing ceremony. In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to explore innovative projects and partnerships at a range of demo and information booths.
Registration (free) for #VMSD26 is open to all interested marine scientists, marine students, policymakers, members of the blue economy and press. Deadline registration: 26 February 2026.
