The VLIZ will move!

On 15 July 2016 the Flemish government took a formal decision to realise a replacing new housing for VLIZ, its international partners and the marine fishery researchers of ILVO. The new estate will be built on the actual site of ILVO, in the Ankerstraat in Ostend. The total investment is assessed at 17 million euro. The occupation of the new building is estimated for end 2019, beginning of 2020.

Coupled with this new estate dossier is the expansion of the Marine Station Ostend of VLIZ. The neighbouring Maritime Site of Ostend will be transferred to VLIZ. After renovation, the site will accommodate a full marine research station on the eastern bank of the harbour of Ostend.
