VLIZ Communication Award 2015

As a young marine scientist or engineer you undoubtedly perform fascinating research in the field of coastal and marine science. Your findings get incorporated in a thesis, into research papers, a project report, databases, etc. And you regularly attend scientific conferences where you present your results. But does your knowledge reach the public at large? Often a researcher has, aside the regular science communications, little time left to transfer his/her information to the wider interested public.
And that’s exactly where the Flanders Marine Institute wants to assist you. We engage to coach one young scientist in a communication action (i.e. media training, web development, launch a press release, produce a short film,  create a photo report, or even develop an ‘out of the box’ idea). We hope to assist the laureate in acquainting a Dutch speaking audience with his or her research topic.
Do you think you are entitled to receive this personal communication coaching? Send us your motivation letter – according to the conditions given below – prior to 31 January 2015. A jury will select the winning candidate and make this news public at the VLIZ Young Marine Scientists’ Day 2015 on 20 February in Bruges (www.vliz.be/jcd).  The winner will get the opportunity to present his/her communication action plenary on the 2016 edition of the Young Marine Scientists’ Day.
