In November 2006 the report ‘Navigating the future III’ was published. Marine scientists from across Europe have outlined what they believe are the most important thematic research priorities in their field. They took into account the priorities of the 7th Framework Programme, the European maritime policy, the national research programmes, the European Maritime Strategy and the Galway Declaration 2004. The report describes well the challenges and opportunities in marine research and in technological innovations, as the basis of future priorities and strategies. This document of 68 pages also gives an overview of the most important organisations and networks as driving forces behind the European oceanographic and coastal research.
