The UN Ocean Decade recently released a new wave of actions and partners that – from now onwards – can officially label themselves as endorsing the stated goal to power-up the science we need for a sustainable ocean. In the new list quite some actions and institutes based in Flanders, Belgium are mentioned and recognised.
Among the newly endorsed ocean-knowledge based solutions we find the Brilliant Marine Research Idea Grant (BMRI) by VLIZ philanthropy “The Sea as a Good Cause” as a contribution to power-up research, and the VLIZ Marine Science Day (VMSD) as an activity to promote marine and coastal science and connect (early-career) scientists to other sectors and stakeholders.
The Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) has been endorsed as a partner due to its commitment to support the UN Ocean Decade by coordinating existing Decade Actions, catalyzing initiatives, leading targeted communications and outreach, and mobilizing resources. We are proud to announce that the InnovOcean Campus in Ostend already hosts 4 of the in total 11 global Decade Implementing Partners: together with VLIZ, the list includes the European Marine Board, EMODnet and JPI Oceans.
