Authority Usually given as Savigny alone (this is definitely incorrect) or Savigny in Lamarck, but Lamarck alone is correct. Lamarck (1818:314-315) derives at least the name Glycera unicornis and presumably also Glycera from the Savigny Mss, publication date 1822. Some of the wording is similar, but the two texts differ. Savigny is the initiator of the names, but not the author. [details]
Etymology Not stated in Lamarck or Savigny, or Hartman (1950) or Böggemann (2002). However, Glycera was a widely used ancient Greek female given name, especially for courtesans and Hetaira, e.g., see ([Wikipedia] [details]
Grammatical gender feminine from the Greek female given name. Adjectival species names in Glycera appear to be consistently created as feminine. The type species name 'unicornis' is an adjective unchanging between masculine/feminine. [details]Unreviewed
Habitat Known from seamounts and knolls [details]
