Instytut Meteorologii i Gospodarki Wodnej (IMGW) is a governmental institute
founded in 1921 within the Polish Ministry of the Environment. IMGW has over 1000 employees and is a national survey responsible for operational meteorology, oceanography and hydrology. Its activity is focused on: performing routine
observations and research on the meteorological, hydrological, climatological and oceanographic observing stations and tide gauges; research work (with the implementation into national emergency survey) in flood, droughts, storm surges
and others natural disasters connected with hydrology of rivers, estuaries and maritime coastal waters (river level, flow, inundation area, and area which require protection against flooding due to their land development, economic, social or
cultural value) and related environmental sciences, including modelling, climatology, risk description, issuing weather forecasts, warnings and other hydrological and oceanographic information in daily routine or on request.
