Abstract
The oyster genetics program at Dalhousie University was begun in 1974 with the intention of studying the quantitative genetics of traits of ecological as well as economic importance. Work to date has largely involved growth rates and survival of larval Crassostrea virginica. Our analysis of genetic and nongenetic components of variation suggest that there is considerable between-population genetic differentiation as well as within-population genetic variation which could be exploited in a selection program.
