Abstract
A single 100 kDa sex-steroid binding protein (SBP) that binds both 17 beta -estradiol and testosterone was identified in plasma from Svalbard charr (Salvelinus alpinus L). Tritiated 17 beta -estradiol was bound with high affinity and high capacity (K sub(d)=0.5-4 nM and B sub(max)=400-1300 fmol/mg protein) to a single binding site. In addition to endogenous hormones several xenoestrogens were able to compete for binding to the sex-steroid binding site.
