Abstract
The effect of exogenous estradiol-17 beta (E sub(2)) in the steroidogenic capacity of the gonad was investigated trough in vitro metabolism of [ super(3)H]17P. Estrogen treatment had a strong inhibitory effect on desmolase, 11 beta -hydroxylase (11 beta H) and 5 beta -reductase. Since there was simultaneously a strong inhibition of spermatogenesis, this suggests that these enzymes are important in testicular development.
