Abstract
    We have developed an RNAse protection assay (RPA) in order to quantify expression of the three GnRH forms found in the striped bass: sGnRH, cGnRH-II, and sbGnRH. Using this RPA in conjunction with ELISAs for the three GnRH forms, a gonadotropin subunit RPA, a LH RIA, and an LH ELISA, we have conducted experiments designed to a) ascertain whether there are differences in GnRH expression between captive and wild striped bass sampled on their spawning grounds in the Chesapeake Bay, and b) examine effects of GnRHa treatment on the GnRH/GtH system of captive striped bass during various stages of final oocyte maturation (FOM).
