Abstract
A new species of Muricidae from Galapagos, Ecuador, of the genus Muricopsis is described and compared with the similar species Muricopsis zeteki Hertlein & Strong, 1951 (n.n. pro aculeatus WOOD, non PERRY, also dubius G.B. SOWERBY II non DILLWYN). and Muricopsis westonensis Myers & D'Attilio, 1990. Muricopsis zeteki Is a widespread species occurring throughout the eastern tropical Pacific from the head of the Gulf of California to Guayaquil, Ecuador (Keen, 1971), but also Galapagos. It is known from the intertidal area to 12 m deep. Muricopsis westonensis is only collected from the type locality Cocos Isl., Costa Rica from 12 to 27 mdeep. Muricopsis taupini n. sp. is only known from Albany Isl.,Galapagos, Ecuador from 5 to 15 m deep.
